If you spend any time in marketing circles or reading about marketing, you will bump into the word “branding”. Branding is one of those concepts that is a bit vague, at least for the non-marketer small business owner. So today we’re going to look at “what is branding” from the small business perspective.

We’re also going to tackle whether branding should matter to small businesses — or whether it’s something only large corporations should or can afford to care about.

What is Branding?

There are thousands of definitions of “branding” or just plain old “brand.” One of the best definitions of brand would be “what sticks in your mind associated with a product, service, or organisation — whether, at that particular moment, you bought or did not buy.”

That seems a good informal way to describe a company’s brand. Under that definition, many things can contribute to a brand.

Does a picture pop into your mind about a company, such as its logo or colours?

Think about the logo, such as Coca-Cola — recognisable the world over, executed in its distinctive curvy script in white against red. And when you see it, do you imagine the effervescence of a Coke, the dark colour or how it tastes?

All those things may run fleetingly through your mind when you want something to drink.

So, when you ask “what is branding” — it is something that triggers associations in our minds. Branding is about creating an identity. It’s what sets one company apart from another. In short, it tells us what we can expect from that company. It’s about the perception people have of the company.

Branding (a verb) is doing those activities and communications, large and small, that create and reinforce a brand, i.e., what a company is known for.

Your brand (a noun) is all the elements that make up a brand, whether logo, packaging, colours, reputation for customer service, reputation for customising customer orders without complaint, speed, self-serve options, low price, high quality — whatever.

The Value of Branding

Brand is what creates customer loyalty. Keeps consumers loyal and buying repeatedly.

I would agree with that… but….

I’d go further. Branding is what helps a prospective buyer call to mind a company when it comes time to buy. In other words, branding also helps with awareness.

In a world of infinite choices, branding that helps people remember YOUR company is more important than ever. Today consumers have a seemingly endless choice of retailers, products and services available at their fingertips online, or at the local strip shopping centres or shopping malls.

If consumers are shopping for something, what do they do? Go to Google, where billions of Web pages and yellow page listings are available.

Not only are there many choices, but some of the decision factors that traditionally separated and defined companies are today transparent and without much difference. Take, for example, pricing. Pricing is easier to discover and compare than ever before. In certain industries there may be very little price difference.

When all prices are the same, what makes the buyer choose one over another? Nuances and qualitative factors may make the difference.

For small businesses, what sets apart the business may be factors such as high quality, craftsmanship, personalised customer service, superior knowledge to help customers make the proper product selections, and similar qualitative factors.

The challenge for some small businesses is how to get customers to think of them when it’s time to buy. You don’t want your company to be nonexistent in the customer’s mind.

And if they see your brand name in a list of competing vendors (such as in a search engine), you want your brand to be associated with positive factors that make it stand out.

Branding is not a replacement for sales or specific marketing campaigns. But branding assists and reinforces your sales and marketing efforts in important ways.

But… We Can’t Afford too

You can’t afford not to. Sure, branding can get incredibly expensive if your idea of branding is a nationwide television and print campaign. But it doesn’t need to be.

Remember, branding isn’t just for large corporations. When customers have seemingly endless choices, branding becomes a crucial competitive edge. That’s the value of branding for small businesses.

Some say are business cards still relevant? Thanks to a variety of digital alternatives, they are.

But if exchanging information digitally is so easy, why are we still hanging on to these little pieces of card?

Why do business cards still work?

Business cards don’t still exist because of some warped sense of tradition or nostalgia; it’s because they continue to add value to the networking experience.

Whether you’re at a conference, mixer or backyard BBQ, a business card allows you to easily give or receive pertinent contact information. There’s no fumbling with your smartphone or hunting down a pencil and paper. You don’t even have to break eye contact.

Business cards still relevant not only save time but allow us to focus on making genuine face-to-face connections.

And, as an extension of your brand, they can add context to help you make a longer-lasting impression.

What should you put on a business card?

Business cards today can be anything you want them to be — 3D, metal, even edible!

How creative you get depends on your industry, brand and personality.

But don’t feel like you need to reinvent the wheel (or the rectangle). The standard business card isn’t just a time-honoured tradition; it’s also practical, easier to carry and less likely to be discarded.

Regardless of design, there is certain information you should always include on your business card.

Name: How can anyone contact you if they don’t know who you are?

Job title: Make sure your title makes it clear what you do otherwise they won’t know why they should contact you.

Company name: This can give you added credibility, especially if your company is recognisable.

Email address: Make this your direct work email, not a company catch-all or a personal address.

Phone number: This should be your direct business line, not an automated company line or a line that requires going through three receptionists to finally reach you.

Website: Keep URLs short and easy to read.

Location (if applicable): Providing a location can be beneficial if you operate in the physical.

These are business card basics, but there’s no reason you can’t go above and beyond.

Consider adding the following:

Company logo: This helps associate you with your brand and makes your brand recognisable.

Personal photo: A photo makes it easier for people to match a name to a face.

Supplemental info: Taglines and mission statements help tell your story.

QR codes: These take up valuable real estate, but they can be more visually appealing than written URLs. If you use a QR code, make it count.

Social profiles: Only include a social media link if the specific outlet plays a significant role in your marketing.

The purpose of your business card is to make it easy for contacts to identify you later, long after they’ve forgotten who you are, what you do and why they should care.

Done right, your business card will not only answer those questions, but also provide a direct line of communication should the need arise.

What should you do with the business cards you collect?

It’s easy to throw a business card into a folder and forget about it. But to make it count, you need to go above and beyond the initial exchange.

Be proactive. Connect with the client on LinkedIn and add any useful information to your database.

It’s best to add information over time rather than waiting until your desk drawer is overflowing with business cards. Trust us, we know.

Once you’ve added this information to your database, use these contacts to targeted email marketing campaigns.

You wouldn’t let an unbranded email slip out to your mailing list, so why not put that same level of attention to detail into your printed communications?

Every communication your business sends out is a representation of how you want others to view you. One of the best ways to make a great impression is through personalised printed business stationery. Here’s why every small business should have stationery as part of their branding arsenal.

1. They Help Keep Your Brand Consistent

From notes to clients to business letters, all types of communications your small business sends out should be instantly recognisable as coming from you. So, make sure to use your startup’s brand guideline to help inform your design decisions!

Every letter you send out should be printed on a custom letterhead, with your company’s logo and the font you use elsewhere (on your website and marketing emails). This should match your business card design, your compliment slips and your correspondence cards. By making sure everything is consistent, it grows your brand – making you even more memorable to important correspondents and clients.

2. They Show That You Care

We know that after investing all of your time and money into it, you really do care about your business. And going to this level of attention to detail with everyday communications is the perfect way of showing off how much you really love it!

After all, a business card isn’t just a business card – it’s an significant networking tool that can help you excel. It’s also a transportable part of your startup; you can hand them out at networking events, include them in customers’ packaging and even leave them in a welcome pack or presentation folder. So, make sure people know how much you love your business by putting your all into the design.

3. They’re Easy to Design

Speaking of business stationery design… this is actually really easy to do.

So, what actually needs to go on your business stationery? A couple of elements common to all of them is your contact details and logo. A way to contact you, such as social media handles, email addresses and URLs are also useful things to include.

Your compliment slips (which usually say ‘with compliments’ on them) and correspondence cards will need room for you to write messages on, whereas letterheads need space for the printed letter, like this one here:

Here’s a little of print inspiration to get those creative juices flowing.

4. They’re Easy to Use

How to Use Letterheads

If the idea of printing letter content onto your letterheads fills you with dread, don’t worry. Just make sure that all the important information is at the top or the bottom of the letterhead. Or, if in doubt, use one of our free templates so you know the spacing is perfect for printing on.

Then, all you need to do to use the letterheads is feed them into the paper section of your home or office printer!

Please note: If you order less than 500 copies of your letterhead design, only use them with ink jet printers. If you print more than 500, you can use them with ink jet or laser printers.

How to Use Business Cards

You never know when you’ll meet a new client. By always having custom business cards to hand, you’re always prepared to network on the go. If you’re new to the world of networking, check out our guide to business card etiquette for newbies!

Or, if you’re looking for fresh new ways to distribute your cards and spread brand awareness quickly, read all about our top creative ways to hand out your business cards here.

How to Use Compliment Slips

Compliment slips are just as useful for promoting yourself as booklets or banners – but you have to use the limited space you have extremely wisely. This little slip of paper has all your important contact information on – like a business card – but, importantly, also says ‘with compliments’ followed by a handwritten note.

59% of consumers who experienced personalisation saying that it significantly influenced what they purchased, showing that that personalised experience is hugely beneficial to your business.

Add them into customers’ orders to say thank you or to your marketing catalogues to help build brand loyalty.

How to Use Correspondence Cards

When a letter is too long/formal, personalised correspondence cards make a fantastic alternative. Thank your clients, send a short note, or even use them as informal invitations.

Like compliment slips, correspondence cards help to personalise any business communications, strengthening those all-important links and relationships.5. They Make Your Business Look Professional

As a small business, one of your main focuses is making a great first impression. There’ll be plenty of people who haven’t come into contact with your brand yet, so being remembered for all the right reasons is key to growing your business.

By creating your own personalised business stationery, you’re showing that your business means business. For example, sending a letter with your own custom letterhead design along the top shows you’ve put time and effort into the communication, you’re proud of your business and you care about the recipient.

6. They Make Sure Important Clients Have Your Details to Hand

Whatever type of stationery you’re designing, there’s something you should always include: your contact details. Add your phone number and email address to business cards, your postal address on letterheads, and always include your name.

Like with any kind of print networking tool, the reason business stationery is so effective is that it’s concrete. An email can get lost in the sea of many, but an actual piece of paper is significantly harder to ignore or lose. And clients are more likely to go back to it later to find your contact details!

7. It Helps Differentiate Your Communications

In the current digital age, it’s easy for your emails to get lost. In fact, statistics show that the average office worker receives a staggering 121 emails per day.

Sending an email to thank customers for their recent purchase won’t have as big of an impact as including a handwritten compliment slip or even your business card in the packaging.

So, what are you waiting for?

Wild FX Signage & Print has created this blog to make it a little more interesting with your ultimate business stationery checklist.

It doesn’t matter if you are a newbie or a veteran in the business world, there are just some bits of printed stationery that no business can live without. Whether you only need a few items on this list or the lot, you must make sure your business stationery is well designed, coordinated and professional to ensure you are leaving a good lasting impression of your business.

By following our business stationery checklist, you will be surprised by the amount of positive feedback you will receive.

Business Cards

Your business card is more often than not one of the first impressions that someone will have of your company. Therefore, it’s vital that you present something high-quality, aesthetically pleasing and also informative.

Everything matters when it comes to business cards, from the layout and design to the feel and weight of the paper! Luckily for you, DigitalPrinting.co.uk have already covered these topics to ensure that you present the best impression of your company.

Luxury Business Cards

The main difference between our luxury business cards and business cards is the thickness of the card. A standard business card would be around 300gsm but luxury business cards start at 540gsm and can reach a thickness of 1190gsm – that’s 4 times thicker than a normal business card.

So, if you are looking for something premium, that’s high-quality, then our luxury business cards are your answer.

As we have mentioned before, business cards are essential for a good impression – so why not make it a lasting connection too?

Letterheads

A company letterhead is so versatile that it’s a must for every business’s stationery drawer.

Company letterheads are documents that include a heading containing important business information such as your company’s logo, name, address and contact information. As we mentioned above, company letterheads are so versatile can be used for a number of things such as invoices, minuting notices, legal tenders and memos.

Letterheads will add a sense of professionalism and establishment to otherwise bare documents. They are also a great tool to break the ice with new customers and clients, legal correspondence documents and also enhance your business’s reputation and reinforcing your brand’s core values.

Compliment Slips

Compliment slips are more often than not forgotten about in regard to printed business stationery – however, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use them.

They’re noteworthy to add to delivery orders, brochures, or even sending to an individual to thank a customer.

This is simple, but very personal and valuable piece of business stationery will not only reinforce your brand. Adds a tangible piece of appreciation and human touch to your business which your customers will be grateful for.

Appointment Cards

Appointment cards are an easy and simple way to stop those all but costly no-shows!

They are a piece of card that contains your company’s logo, name, contact details and address. Used to confirming meetings with clients, appointments, and they are a great print to work alongside online promotional work.

On top of this- they also ensure your customers and clients turn up to their meetings/ appointments. Nothing more frustrating than spending all of your time preparing for an appointment to have your client not turn up! By providing them with an appointment card it not only ensures they remember their next meeting with you. Also encourages them to turn up on time, and also have your all-important information in hand.

Never take appointment cards for granted: they are an important piece of marketing that showcases your company. They add professionalism, an opportunity to add a personal touch and a good final impression using business stationery checklist.

Want to decide which types of large format printing to use? Let’s go over 6 of the most popular types, focusing on key components and distinguishing their pros and cons. Consider this a guide to help you choose the most appropriate printing method that will enable you to stand out from the crowd.

Type 1. Solvent Ink jet Printing

Solvent ink jet printing is used to produce massive business signs. The inks used in this method are solvent-based. They are able to dissolve and bind well with all types of substrate materials. They even work on vinyl and other types of plastics.

Pros: This printing technique allows you to create bold and durable graphics. The solvent evaporates after printing, yielding a permanent result.

Cons: Though they grant a long-lasting effect, experts consider solvent printers risky due to the hazardous fumes they produce. Despite this, a great number of industries use this type of large format printing.

Type 2. Aqueous Ink jet Printing

Water is the main component of the ink in aqueous ink jet printing, as its name indicates. Though flexible in usage, they’ll turn out a permanent product only when paired along with lamination.

Pros: It’s environmentally friendly and doesn’t require additional ventilation. Produces supreme resolution, yielding high-definition image reproductions.

Cons: Special coating like lamination is required for more permanent applications. In addition, the main substrate used for this method is paper fabric, which is more expensive.

Type 3. UV-Based Printing

This is the most effective technique among the various forms of large format printing. The way it works is different. The drying system utilises ultra-violet rays parallel to the printing process. Thanks to this, no drying time is required after the printing is complete. Being a leader in the industry, we utilise this method along with the latest technology for maximum quality assurance.

Pros: No coating is necessary for UV prints, making them more cost-effective. UV-curable ink dries immediately and is ideal for outdoor signage. It results in prints that are sun and fade-resistant, sustainable and incredibly vibrant.

With UV printing, you can get custom banners without the need for lamination. Surprisingly, it’s also more cost-effective than the aqueous printing method. Moreover, it’s one of the most utilised types of direct printing on any rigid material. You can use this technique to print on and make wooden signs, vinyl decals, aluminium signs, acrylic signs, etc.

UV printing is odourless and ecologically friendly. It creates a pleasant atmosphere in the workspace as well as for the natural environment. UV-based printing leaves a clean and clear signature.

Cons: Requires special equipment.

Type 4. Latex Printing

Latex and resin-based inks are the latest discoveries in the printing industry. Like aqueous printing, latex is also water-based. Heaters must be installed and used to make the ink bind to the substrates as well as to dry it after printing.

Pros: Latex printing is not harmful to surroundings and the environment. It yields a vivid look for signage applications and is acceptable for use in any location.

Cons: Latex printing is energy-consuming due to the use of heaters before and after the printing process. It pairs only with highly durable substrates that can endure high temperatures. It’s more expensive, although there has been a noticeable decrease in prices recently.

Type 5. Dye Sublimation Printing

This is a great way to print on synthetic fabrics for quality purposes. The images that result from this form of direct printing are crisp and colourful.

Pros: Vivid colouring and sharp imagery are the strong suits of dye sublimation printing.

Cons: This form of banner printing works specifically with light-coloured materials with a polymer coating. It requires special inks that are more expensive. It’s slower than any other ink jet printing technique.

Type 6. Plotter or Pen Printing

As the name suggests, this form of direct printing involves pens that draw on the print material. Digital printing companies also use plotters for their production. Pen printing, also referred to as plotter printing, provides high-quality line drawings.

Pros: The method is more accurate than traditional printers when it comes to line drawing.

Cons: Plotter and pen printers take much longer than regular or advanced printing techniques. In the world of high-tech, quicker forms of banner printing like digital and UV have come to replace plotters.

The digital revolution has fundamentally changed how we access information, communicate with each other and engage with businesses. As the digital tools we rely on get smaller, cheaper and smarter, many have predicted that print will become merely a quaint relic of the “pre-pixel” age.

Thankfully, those dire predictions aren’t borne out by evidence. In his 2016 article for MarketingProfs, Nicholas Brown wrote, “The more our lives are influenced by digital media, the more we are drawn to print as a retreat from online space.”

Catalogs, magazines, brochures and postcards still play a central role in brand-building, customer acquisition and audience engagement. Why? Because the more our lives are filled with digital communication, the more we crave respite from it.

Print offers a retreat―a way to continue and deepen engagement when we put our devices down. In fact, during these moments, we’re often less distracted and far more relaxed and receptive.

The 4 Powers of Print

We’ve all heard the refrain countless times: “The medium is the message.” And the logic behind that truism applies inside and outside the digital world. The advantages of print make it ideal for a wide range of messaging.

1. It’s sensory.

The weight and texture of the paper, the saturation of the ink and the rich detail of images can make print compelling and immersive. Together, these physical qualities are able to create unique brand moments that simply can’t be matched digitally.

In this way, it’s especially appealing to tactile learners―those who experience the world primarily through touch and movement.

2. It comes with fewer distractions.

The sheer power of our digital tools demands us to make a tradeoff―convenience in exchange for constant distraction. As you’re reading this, you’re probably being presented with pop-up ads and incoming emails, text messages and meeting notifications. That same degree of intrusion doesn’t apply to print.

3. It is slow (in a good way).

With fewer messages vying for our attention, printed material can be experienced more slowly (which often means more thoroughly). For marketers, that tendency to keep and savor printed material translates into more durable and potentially more valuable engagement.

4. Print is trusted.

Culture matters. The printed word carries with it the weight of history and tradition. While I’m not suggesting that digital media is anything less than trustworthy, print has a certain implicit credibility and cache. Used properly, the very medium itself can help businesses reinforce their messages and enrich their brands.

Digital media has revolutionized how the world communicates, but it hasn’t displaced print. Instead, it has repositioned it. Print is the break we take. It’s what we see when we look up from our devices. It’s what we linger over. As part of a well-integrated multi-channel campaign, it can spark new interactions between your brand and your most valued audiences.

From brand strategy to content and creative development, Stamats helps business tap into the power of print. Let’s connect and explore how print can improve conversion, enrich your brand and move your goals forward. For more information, please contact us.

Despite what you may have heard, print advertising is alive and kicking. Whether it’s a magazine ad, direct mail, or even business cards. Print still plays a powerful role in placing your brand in front of your customers.

Here are a few of the valuable ways print can be a powerful tool. Either in your branding, marketing, or advertising toolkit.

Print Advertising

Printing connects more on an emotional level with readers than digital. It offers readers a chance to linger over your product and its message in a way that other channels don’t. Print advertising provides prospects a tangible way to engage with your brand message.

Print advertising can also support your digital marketing. Strategic print advertising can drive traffic to your website. If your site functions as an ecommerce store. It can drive even deeper interaction with your brand.

Direct Mail

Direct mail presents a tangible experience for your customers. With print they can physically experience your brand and its message. Providing your customers a personalized medium for expressing your brand services and benefits.

Multi-piece direct mail packages offer many opportunities for customers to discover your brand. All in a single package.

Smaller direct mail initiatives

For Example: postcards, can be an affordable way to place your brand in front of customers you want to reach.

In addition, direct mail can serve as a measurable marketing tool. you can use direct mail to send customers to a landing page so that you can track responses.

Business cards and letterhead

Creating relationships with customers is still a very up close and personal proposition. Make an effective impression by corresponding with both customers and prospects. Doing so with custom designed business cards and stationary. This can set the right tone you want to make.

Brochures and handouts

A well-designed brochure can serve as a powerful support mechanism for presentations. It’s one thing to stand in front of prospects and tell them about the wonderful product or service you can offer.

Increase the impression you leave with a brochure that has vivid imagery. As well as actionable content.

Downloadable PDF documents, or other gated content, are valuable tools for wooing customers. It also gathers valuable data for retargeting and prospect databases.

There are other ways these and other print materials can help you grow your brand and increase its reach.

For all your printing needs in business contact Wild FX Signage & Print.

You shouldn’t be including paragraphs of more than three sentences, and these paragraphs should be unrelated to each other and staggered in different places across the flyer. Don’t try to convey everything that you want to say in one area and remember that bullet points are always better than paragraphs.

So you have a business and a brand…NOW WHAT? We have put together some of our MUST HAVE marketing items that every business needs to establish their brand identity and to market themselves professionally and successfully.

Effective marketing is a game-changer for businesses nowadays, it is not enough to just provide quality products or services as most businesses operate in a competitive market. You need to tell your consumers why they should choose you and what you can provide for them.

Print marketing is an effective and engaging communication tool that plays an incredibly strong role for both businesses and consumers. The significance of having a well-recognised brand and good print marketing can dramatically increase sales, grow businesses and engage potential customers. Having something tangible can help sell your products or services and creates customer interaction and engagement. The fact is most businesses want to make money and marketing yourself is an essential channel to reach that end goal.

1. Business Cards

Business Cards are an obvious one as they display basic information about a company or individual. This often includes the name, phone number, title or company, website, tagline, and social media handles. You can hand out Business Cards anywhere including networking events, trade shows, meetings, and conferences. You should also place them on your desk or reception area so visitors can easily take a card for reference later. Being prepared with personalised Business Cards adds some legitimacy and professionalism to your business.

2. Brochures

Brochures are an integral part of your branding process and identity. They are a vital communication piece about your products and services that a potential customer can take with them. It keeps the face of your business/brand in their hands as well as their heads, reminding them of your services. Brochures are often folded into a pamphlet or leaflet for easy storage and transportation. They usually contain images, text, and various design elements to show your brand’s look while offering detailed advertising information. Brochures are easy to hand out and are great for people passing by who could be potential customers. Brochures are so versatile and can be mailed, included in packaged orders, or you hand just them out at meetings and events.

3. Banners

Banners are perfect for advertising your event, products or brand right where the action happens. With eye-catching designs, they effectively broadcast your message notifying consumers of a sale, special, or promotion. Banners are very versatile and can be used anywhere in your desired place for effective marketing. They can be easily folded and packed into your suitcase making them an ideal travel companion! In addition to getting people’s attention and sharing information about an event or promotion, Banners can help to grow brand awareness. If people constantly walk or drive past your banner they are likely to take notice and become familiar and remember your brand.

4. A-frames

Businesses should definitely take advantage of passing foot traffic by using signage such as our A-frames. Our A-frames allow you to change your message as many times as you like or need. Many businesses are frequently changing information about services or products, this type of signage is certainly a great investment. When placed strategically with eye-catching designs, they effectively broadcast your message notifying consumers of a sale, special, or promotion that will surely make an impression and draw in customers.

5. Custom Stickers

Let’s face it, the fact is that people just really like stickers, and if your stickers are creative and attractive enough, then they’ll be sticking them on anything and everything. Sticker marketing commands the viewer’s attention and can be placed virtually anywhere including walls, windows, cars, computers, backpacks, sidewalks, doors and machinery making it a powerful, low-cost marketing tool. When you apply a promotional sticker on something you’re essentially endorsing that brand. In other words, anyone who sees the sticker will see it as a personal recommendation, turning the sticker into a form of word-of-mouth marketing.

Business Card Design have long been considered a classic way of introducing one’s self and keeping in touch with clients and fellow professionals. Although business cards primarily contain contact details, you can put your personal touch to it and make it just a notch more creative. This allows you to be memorable and make a lasting impression.

In this day and age, we pretty much have relied on the convenience of technology in acquiring and keeping people’s contact details. But the downside of this convenience is that it makes these business transactions impersonal, and kinda ingenuine.

Creative treatments to different brand identities have spawned different business card design trends over the years.

1. Letterpress

Letterpress business cards are made using a traditional printing press technique that’s been around for centuries. The manual labor and intricate effort that this method requires truly make it a timeless craft in itself.

The standard, modern printers you’re probably familiar with mixes ink and prints them flat on paper almost instantaneously. On the other hand, letterpress machines leave impressions on paper. These impressions can be embossed (raised on the card’s surface) or debossed (sunken deep within the card’s surface), giving it a more tactile and textured look. In print, letterpress machines offer limited colour options, but this makes letterpress business cards simple and minimalistic.

Although printing with this method is time-consuming, letterpress business cards are appreciated for their detail and effort, making them more valuable than standard printed business cards.

2. Risograph print

Like letterpress business cards, Risograph business cards use an old printing method by using the Risograph machine. Referred to as “Riso” by its adoring cult following, Riso machines create stencils and print on paper one colour at a time. This results in exceptionally vibrant, textured prints that are hard to replicate.

These machines are similar to photocopying machines, in a way that they are both great for mass printing due to their speed and very low cost. This instantly became popular with artists and designers in the ‘90s and its influence is evident in the art scene to this day.

3. Stamped

Taking manual business card printing methods to the next level, hand-stamped business cards are made by using rubber stamps with an ink pad to leave a mark on a blank card or virtually any surface. Manually stamping your cards give them a crafty and distinct character. This method of business card making is also one of the easiest methods because all of the tools that you will need are portable and making them is very quick to do, you can even make a freshly printed card on the go.

Another benefit of hand-stamped business cards is its versatility. The stamp can be used for other purposes other than making business cards, like marking letters, postcards, package designs, and practically anything you want to leave a mark on.

While the first three business card design trends were focused on their printing methods, the next three designs are embellishments and are decorative in nature. These designs can certainly add some personality to your business cards.

4. Paint-dipped

As the name suggests, this type of business card design involves dipping business cards in any type of paint; usually dye, watercolour, or acrylic. The colour from the dipping paint gives plain-coloured business cards an accent colour. And because dipping them by hand isn’t completely controlled and consistent, each and every single card comes out slightly different from the rest, which makes them truly one of a kind.

5. Foil

Foil business cards are known to have metallic foil impressions as embellishments. These business cards use metallic gold, silver, copper, or even rose gold impressions to give them a sleek and shiny finish. The end result gives an elegant design that makes business cards look expensive and luxurious, making them perfect for luxury brands.

6. Painted edge

The painted edge design is about putting coloured ink on the side edges of each business card. While most business card designs only play around the front and back sides of the card, this design makes the most of the entire business card by putting colour on the side edges as well. This makes it look more playful and distinguishable—even if you can’t see what’s written on the card itself.

7. Clear plastic

What makes clear plastic business card design different from the rest on this list is that its strength primarily lies in the card’s material: see-through plastic. Plastic business cards are unique, modern, and most importantly, more durable than most business cards. They can be completely transparent, opaque, frosted, or even tinted with colour. Putting coloured plastic business cards against a light source also leaves an interesting coloured shadow.

To conclude…

Business cards may be old fashioned but these design trends elevate them to the modem world through innovation and creativity. More than just a business tool, your personal business card is also an extension of your brand and personal identity. This allows other people to recognize you or your company’s identity, making way for trust, which can result in good and lasting business relationships.
